Magazine Film Reviews: Empire - Avatar, The Day After Tomorrow & Kidulthood

We looked at the magazine review for The Day After Tomorrow as well as the Avatar and Kidulthood ones. This magazine review offered a different perspective and with the image that we used in our main article we decided that this new article would be better to follow to suit the design we wanted to make. This review has one main image, a paragraph describing the actors and his previous roles as well as the main article itself.

This the image that is in the magazine film review done by Empire magazine on Avatar. This magazine review gives an indication to the audience about the content of the film and the images showcase the different scenes that are in the film. This article in the magazine about the film gives a detailed insight about the film, its director and the actors/actresses in the film. This double page spread does higlight key facts about the film and by having such a significant image like the one above it gives the audience an idea of the sort of characters that are in the film as well as what the characters look like. Avatar is not within the same genre as our film but if we follow the concepts and ideas that this magazine follows then we will be able to make a magazine article that is suitable for this genre and shows the contents of the film in the best way possible.

The main image on the magazine double page spread does cover both pages and then the beginning of the article starts in the bottom left corner of the page. By making the image spread across both pages, they are showing its significance as well as making the audience think about what scene of the film this is and why they decided to make this image central. We intend to do the same with our magazine and we just have to make sure that it is descriptive and makes the audience see more into the film than they should.

Empire magazine also did a review on Kidulthood. With this review you can see that they have spoken about the plot, given a rating out of five as well as mentioning the main actors/actresses that are in the film. This review might not be as informative as the Avatar one but the reason we used it as an example is because it is more relevant to our genre and can give us a starting point when we come to workinh our double page spread. The lack of information on this review shows that when we are writing our article we should make sure that there is enough content like the Avatar film but is more compatible to Kidulthood.

What ideas can be used in the magazine double page review on I.O.U? What will be included on the magazine spread about I.O.U?
With the double page review on our film, we have to ensure we mention the characters, their roles and the content of the whole film. The image we put there should be of a scene in the film which definitely enables the audience to be able to read into what the film has to offer to them. In our double page spread on I.O.U we intend to outline the details of the film, the actors/actresses in the movie and the ideas and perceptions that the movie portrays. It is important that we include the correct information we should also make sure that the image we choose is suitable for the magazine because we want the readers to look into the film and see it for more than what it is and gather an understanding of what we have created.
